COMETS

Comets are rocks made out of dust and ice,and it orbits around the sun just like planets. it is believed that short-lived comets are found in an area just beyond the orbit of Neptune called the Kuiper Belt.Long-lived comets come from a cloud outside of the solar system called the Oort Cloud.

The word 'comet' was derived from a Latin word which means 'Hairs of Light' when comets are far away from the sun, it is just an ordinary piece of rock. The coma (the tail) appears in comets when it apporaches a source of heat such as the sun. The sun melts away the rock producing a tail at the end.The tail always flares in the opposite direction from the sun because the Sun's Solar Wind blow the dust and the melted ice away from the comet. The most famous comet is called the next time it will pass by Earth again is 28th of July 2061
